Let's go fly a kite!

Up here on top of the mountain, it is kite-flying weather nearly every day, so a couple Saturdays ago, we finally took advantage of it.  What fun!

Look what Ellie found...

Ellie went down to the barn with Dwayne a couple weeks ago and found more than she expected!  (FYI:  Of those hands you see in the picture touching the snake, none are mine!)

Ellie was excited about the snake that day, but since then, she has decided that the barn is not one of her favorite places because she doesn't want to run into that snake again!!  (Can't blame her there!)

For those of you who are not snake experts, this is just a black rat snake, harmless to us and rather helpful to have around a barn.  We estimated it to be about 6 feet long.

Incidentally, 2 or 3 summers ago, Dwayne brought home a snake skin from the loft of the same barn.  It was a little longer than 6 feet and appeared to be the same type of snake as this one.  Mr. Snake's ancestor?  Hmm... Ellie seems wiser and wiser the more I think about it!

Resurrection Gardens, Part 2

The kids did a great job and I wanted to share!

Little reminders of Jesus' resurrection every time we step out on the porch...

Bye-bye, Butterfly!

Up, up, and away!
Well, all good things must come to an end, I suppose, and our butterflies were no exception!

A bit blurry, but I love this picture Marian snapped of
Andrew trying to help the butterfly take flight!

The kids truly did not want to let them go; we had become quite attached!

From the time we received the caterpillars to the time we released the butterflies, it was just over two months.

It has been so incredible to watch them.  Getting up close and personal with God's creation... priceless!!

Easter

(Oh, me.  Have I really let nearly 3 weeks pass since Easter?  Time surely flies.)
Easter was beautiful!  We enjoyed the annual candy hunt, err, rather candy gathering, at church.

Dwayne tried to persuade Reagan to just pick up the "good stuff", but Rig would have none of it!

After church we had some dear friends over for dinner and a small candy hunt of our own (as if we didn't get enough sugar at church!).

Look who found the gold egg!

Easter cake by the kids & me-- yum!
All told, it was a wonderful day to celebrate Christ's resurrection!  Happy Easter, everyone!
