Look what Ellie found...

Ellie went down to the barn with Dwayne a couple weeks ago and found more than she expected!  (FYI:  Of those hands you see in the picture touching the snake, none are mine!)

Ellie was excited about the snake that day, but since then, she has decided that the barn is not one of her favorite places because she doesn't want to run into that snake again!!  (Can't blame her there!)

For those of you who are not snake experts, this is just a black rat snake, harmless to us and rather helpful to have around a barn.  We estimated it to be about 6 feet long.

Incidentally, 2 or 3 summers ago, Dwayne brought home a snake skin from the loft of the same barn.  It was a little longer than 6 feet and appeared to be the same type of snake as this one.  Mr. Snake's ancestor?  Hmm... Ellie seems wiser and wiser the more I think about it!

  2. Cool! We found one in our chicken pen in a birds nest that was in their roosting place. But we did not handle it... The kids just went and got daddy!! He took over from there. Interestingly though for "school", they did open up the "bump", and see that indeed the snake had eaten the mama bird and the eggs. Awww How sad!!
